Code Enforcement

The department also performs Code Enforcement activities.  Citizens may notify the department of zoning violations use (Comments Form) in writing or by email.  Once a potential zoning violation complaint or inquiry has been received, staff conducts an investigation.  If warranted, staff proceeds with notification to the property owner and/or residents of the violation and the need to remediate the offense.  Any of the staff may receive complaints, and all staff may be involved in the investigation and follow up.  Unresolved complaints may ultimately go to Municipal Court or District Court as a criminal offense.  However, most of the complaints are taken care of in a timely manner and never go any further than the filing cabinet.
