Maybe you have noticed all of the spiffy new street signs along Corrales road? The signs are courtesy of our friends at the New Mexico Department of Transportation. You are probably unaware that this is all part of a new reflectivity standard set by the Federal Government.
The Village has the same unfunded mandate for our own street signs all throughout Corrales. We are required to replace over 1000 signs, at an estimated cost of $153,000, with new ones that meet the reflectivity standards as part of a large scale safety initiative. Of course, we don’t have that kind of money laying around, so that’s where you come in!
We budget what we can each year for replacing signs according to priorities set by the Parks and Public Works department. The worst, most faded signs are replaced each year with the goal of getting them all done before the next mandated program comes along. However, if you and your neighbors want your street sign replaced sooner rather than later, we have created a program for you: Adopt A Sign Corrales!!
Depending on whether you need just a new sign, or a new post too, residents can stop by the Village Office and make a donation of up to $65 with your sign request. Your street will then get its own spiffy new sign, ASAP! ... See MoreSee Less
