On Wed. 01/31 a resident reported that on Mon. 01/29 she received an electronic message indicating that she was scammed, then called an out-of-state telephone number and was led to believe that she was speaking with the U.S. Treasury Department. The victim was informed that she would receive a Treasury check for a specified amount and followed instructions to leave an equal amount of cash outside of her residence in order to “clear” her money. The citizen advised that an unknown male wearing a face mask picked up the cash and she never received the check. Please caution your more vulnerable relatives, friends and neighbors against these types of cons.
