Corrales Village Mayor JoAnne Roake will brandish the ceremonial scissors and cut the ribbon on the long-awaited renovation of the buildings that will be the Village’s new Public Works Department Headquarters.  The event is scheduled for 11 am Friday Dec. 6, 2020, at the old Jones House workshop and barn, just west of the US Post Office on Double-S Rd.  All Village residents are invited to attend.

The project cost about $460,000 and was funded through Village voter-approved general obligation bonds and state capital outlay funds from the State Legislature.  It included concrete work, plumbing, heating, cooling and electrical upgrades to the two buildings.  Lighting and a security system were added along with an administrative office, breakroom and bathroom.

“The Public Works Building is 5,680 square feet and the storage barn is 3,340 square feet.  We also had them install power and roll-up doors to secure the barn,” said Public Works Director Michael Chavez.

Chavez says the renovation will improve his department operation in several ways. “This will be way more efficient. We can actually work on our own equipment instead of farming it out because we will have a  large, secure locked space to keep it out of the elements.  And, because we can keep our trucks inside, we will also eliminate the need to load and unload tools and other equipment each workday.”
